We absolutely loved our stay. The property was cleaner and nicer than we expected. It had everything we needed to have a great stay. The setting is so serene, it is perfect for a group getaway!
Rustic but comfortable, spacious but cozy. Nothing fancy. But completely suited our purpose of a gathering spot for scattered family. Near town, nice walks in any direction, near beaches, etc. make weekend reservations well ahead of time or plan on eating early or late. Recommend this location and this company.
Superb quality and beauty and hospitality all rolled into one!! Be prepared to walk into a piece of history and tranquility.
Truly perfect getaway!
River’s Bend is incredible–even more so in person than in the photos. The location–a 5-8 minute drive from town–is spectacular, high above the Kalamazoo River, with private steps that take you down to the river and dock and Adirondack-style chairs set up for you. The house itself is an artistic beauty–kind of modern, craftsmen style. Our group of 4 girlfriends enjoyed lazy mornings sipping coffee in the large main room and kitchen and on the gorgeous deck, having slept so comfortably in a private beautiful bedroom for each of us. This place is HUGE! The management could not have been more responsive; when we arrived back at the place late on our first night there, we couldn’t get the front door to open, Kristin from Bella Vista came out to personally help us–(punch in the code, then unlock the deadbolt, and then open the door!). If you want to enjoy the fun, arts, and delicious delights of the Saugatuck-Douglas area AND a relaxing retreat in the beautiful nature the area offers, River’s Bend is the perfect vacation home!
Our stay at this cottage was beautiful. The views and natural wonder all around us was breathtaking. The top floor with the two small bedrooms was my favorite part of the interior of the house.
Beyond that, the windows in the living room are insanely gorgeous. The vaulted ceilings made me feel like I was staying somewhere abroad — like, Scotland or England. The cottage soaks up natural light so well.
My only critique about the cottage is that it felt a little more lived in than I would have expected for a place that just opened up for public rental. For instance, the windows could have used a good washing and the carpet seemed in slight need of a shampoo. None of these things were major issues for us. This cottage is unlike anything I’ve seen. It’s authentically rustic and in spite of the few flaws in presentation that I mentioned above, I’d stay there again in a heartbeat. It almost felt like a living breathing thing — a place alive with character, and something you might find in a fairytale.
